The name of Crochet comes from Croc, French word that means hook. Crochet is an art that uses threads, strings and other elements as basic materials, and with a hook-shaped needle, it creates beautiful fabrics and laces.

Some place the origin of crochet fabric in South America. Others say that the art of crocheting originated in Arabia and others argue that its origin is China. However, there is no real evidence to support these claims. What we do know for sure is that it became popular in Europe around the 1800s. Some say that the procedure used to make the crochet was present during ancient times, but the hook or needle that is now used, still did not exist. The people then used their fingers, with those who made strings, bows and chains.

There are many arguments against these theories, because if they were true, some remains of tissues or needles with the characteristic shape of the hook would have been found in the archaeological finds and the remains of the missions. Although there are also those who say that remains have been found in the Egyptian tombs and who affirms that in fact they were works of crocheting realized by the nuns to beautify and to adorn the first churches.
